This particular logo design was all about the exploration of typography.
But it didn’t just appear like this, there was lot’s of R&D that came before.
After much exploration into initial logo designs on good old paper…. I created the following first stage logos for submission.
Unfortunately, even though all of these were liked, none of them were deemed suitable and the next step was to create something in a similar vain as the famous Spiderwick logo.
The client also sent a typeface reference too, after much research I found that it was based on illustrated letters created by the Children’s book illustrator Arthur Rackham. Rackham was regarded as one of the ‘leading illustrators from the ‘Golden Age’ of British book illustration’* and so, based on letters from some of this great mans work I created the next incarnation of the Hardy logo.
There actually was a few versions before this one, and several days of tweaking, endless pixel shifting that would carry on forever if you didn’t make a call to call it at some point!
I created the 3d version at the top of this post in C4d with a view of developing an animated version.
Hardy, Son & Barker are a production company creating, amongst other things, some great documentaries for TV, Check out some on their website, Burning Bright Productions.
I created this logo working on a freelance bases through London’s post production house, The Mill.
